Kendall County sees surge during early voting

Kendall County voters flocked to the polls in near-record numbers during early voting, outpacing even the presidential race in 2024, according to Kendall County Elections Administrator Staci Decker.

Early voting for the March 3 primary began Feb. 17 and ended Friday.

“Primary turnout for this election is running ahead of the 2024 presidential primary turnout,” Decker said. “Turnout has been higher every single day when compared to the ‘24 presidential election.”

Turnout of the electorate in early voting for non-presidential primary years usually hits about 13%, Decker said — a figure the county already surpassed after Wednesday.

A final tally after polls close Friday is expected to push that number over the top, officials said.

Overall, more than a million Texans cast ballots during the first week of early voting, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.

There are 39,857 registered voters in Kendall County.

The GOP has led the numbers during early voting.

Thursday’s 694 voters — the most recent figures at press time — pushed the turnout percentage from 12.97 to 15.14% of registered voters casting ballots, officials said.

Early voting opened strong the first day with 499 voters — 413 Republicans, 84 Democrats — casting ballots.

The remainder of the early voting period looked like this:

• Feb. 18: 555 — 453 GOP, 100 Dem.

• Feb. 19: 623 — 485; 137.

• Feb. 20: 829 — 649; 177.

• Feb. 21: 353 — 256; 96.

• Feb. 22: 169 — 132; 37.

• Feb. 23: 646 — 511; 134.

• Feb. 24: 704 — 556; 145.

• Feb. 25: 791 — 626; 164.

• Feb. 26: 866 — 694; 165. There have been 21 “limited balloting” votes tallied prior to Friday, which accounts for day-today totals being off by a vote or two on a daily basis, seven votes on Feb. 26 alone.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
