2-1

The two Boerne ISD varsity boys soccer teams clashed in their second-round meeting last Friday at Champion.

In their first-round contest, the Greyhounds won by a goal, 3-2, and had won the last three going back to last year, but the Chargers were able to snap their 3-game skid to their crosstown rivals.

Last Friday’s game at Charger Field was decided by a goal as well and went in favor of Champion, 2-1.

Noah Umbreit and Diego Flores tallied the two Charger goals on Friday on the assists from Grayson Moran and Bryce Knell.

Boerne’s lone goal was recorded by Ramzy Handal on a penalty kick.

Friday’s win by Champion moved the Chargers to fourth place in 26-5A at 7-5 (11-7 overall) and keeps the Greyhounds in third place at 7-4-2 (9-5-2 overall).

Smithson Valley has 6 wins and Kerrville Tivy has 5 wins, so they’re still in the playoff hunt as well.

Everyone is chasing Pieper (10-0-3) and New Braunfels (9-1-2), two teams Champion plays this week.

The Chargers were at Pieper Tuesday and host New Braunfels Friday. After that, they have Wagner and Kerrville Tivy left on the schedule. Boerne High hosted Alamo Heights Tuesday and is off Friday. They’ll close out the regular season at Peiper and host New Braunfels.
