Comfort softball plays in Blanco tourney, also knocks off Medina

Comfort High played in the Blanco softball tournament last weekend and also picked up a non-district win over Medina last Tuesday.

The Deer (10-9) will be home for its next three and hosted Bandera on Tuesday. They’ll welcome Hondo on Friday.

Blanco Tournament

Comfort posted a 1-4 mark at the Blanco tourney and stands 10-9 overall.

The Deer lost to Marion, 9-4, and also dropped a game to Canyon Lake, 5-1. Comfort also came up short against Lytle, 6-3 and Natalia, 11-1.

In between, the Deer defeated Bandera, 18-2, behind 10 hits. Comfort scored 11 of those runs in the second frame.

Vs. Medina

Comfort exploded for 27 runs in its last two at bats last Tuesday and went on to defeat Medina, 28-4.

Comfort is 9-5 overall and playing in the Blanco Tournament this weekend.

Medina was actually leading 2-1 at the end of the first frame, but Comfort tallied 13 in the second and 14 more in the third. Once Medina couldn’t answer in the bottom of the third, the game ended via the mercy rule.

The Deer batted 41 times in the game and collected 13 hits and 25 RBI. Nine of their hits went for extra bases after Bella Hernandez, Taygan Rust, McKenzie Pankratz and Raquelle Ibarra all tripled. Mariah McCullough hit 2 doubles, while Ella Thiele, Moorea Davis and Anna Munoz all doubled.

Hernandez, Thiele and Jordan Judkins all scored 4 runs each, while five others had 3 runs each.

Thiele pitched an inning and didn’t give up a hit or a run, while she walked 1 and struck out 1. Esme Camacho also threw and scattered 5 hits, gave up 2 runs, 1 walk and fanned 3 of the 11 batters she faced.
