Boerne baseball in second tournament of season

The Boerne High baseball team won its first two games at the Comal ISD Baseball Tournament but dropped its last three to finish 2-3 at the event.

BHS is 7-4 overall and resumed district play Tuesday at Kerrville Tivy. The Greyhounds are entered in the Alamo Heights tournament this weekend.

The Hounds opened with a 13-0 run-rule victory over Burbank and finished with a dozen hits in the game.

After taking a 4-0 lead, Boerne scored 8 in the third and added another run in the fourth.

Josh Kory hit an insidethe- park homer and tripled, drove in 3 runs and crossed home plate twice.

EJ Goolsby tripled and singled, pushed in 3 runs and scored once, Jake Perez hit a double and a single, collected 2 RBI and also scored once, Otis Skubal singled, collected 2 RBI and scored twice and Eli Srp singled and scored 2 runs.

Caden Guerreo threw 5 innings and only gave up 1 hit, 2 walks and fanned 5.

Boerne’s next win came against La Porte, 10-3. BHS was up 3-2 and blew it open with 8 runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Hounds had 7 hits in the game, all singles from 7 different players.

Otis Skubal scored 2 runs, took 2 walks and singled, Jackson Grimes picked up 2 RBI and scored twice, while Austin Gerbes also plated 2 runs.

Asher Wren went 4 innings on the mound and scattered 3 hits, gave up 3 runs, walked 4 and struck out 4.

Vinnie Tarantino threw in the final inning and retired the side on 14 pitches.

On Friday, the Greyhounds knocked out 4 hits but couldn’t score a run and lost to Sotomayor, 3-0.

Asher Wren had 2 of those hits, while Josh Kory and Drake Kinneson both singled.

Eli Srp went 4 innings on the mound and gave up 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and struck out 2. Vinnie Tarantino also tossed and went 3 innings and scattered 3 hits and gave up 1 walk.

Later on Friday, the Greyhounds took on Coronado and were defeated 14-4.

BHS only tallied 3 hits in the game and received 2 singles from Jake Perez, while Ronnie Scarbrough also had a hit.

Jackson Grimes took 2 walks and scored once, Otis Skubal walked and scored, while EJ Goolsby and Austin Gerbes both crossed home plate once.

Braden Ramirez and Caden Guerrero both tossed in the game. Ramirez went 3.2 innings on the bump and struck out 2, while Guerreo went the final 1.1 innings and yielded 2 hits.

In its final game of the event, the Greyhounds were defeated by Johnson, 7-4.

Johnson took control early with 4 runs in the top of the first, but BHS answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Johnson was up 4-2 and added 3 more runs over the next three frames for the 7-2 lead before the Greyhounds tried to rally in the sixth but came up short, 7-4.

Boerne finished with 6 hits, including a triple from Otis Skubal, who also scored, while Asher Wren doubled and picked up 2 RBI.

Colton Shaver knocked out 2 singles and scored a run, while Austin Gerbes and EJ Goolsby both singled. Ronnie Scarbrough and Jackson Grimes both scored one run each.

Scarbrough, Kepa Kanae and Vinnie Tarantino all pitched in the game, with Kanae striking out 5 in 5.1 innings of work.
