Geneva plays in Devine hardball tourney

Geneva School of Boerne played in the Devine Baseball Tournament last weekend and posted a 2-2 mark.

The Eagles are 8-4 overall and will be off for a bit. They’ll host Schertz John Paul II on March 17 and visit Holy Cross that Friday.

At the tourney, the Eagles had a good start against the Reagan JV and scored 3 runs in the top of the first but were kept off the board the rest of the way, while the Rattlers tallied 13 runs over its next four at bats for the 13-3 win.

The Eagles had 5 hits, including a triple from Gray Bruner, who also singled, scored once and drove in a run. Robert Jons doubled, picked up an RBI and scored, Josh Patteson singled and Harris Priesmeyer singled and scored.

Bryce Hanover went 2.1 innings on the hill, while Crockett Srp also threw in the game.

Geneva bounced back with a 10-1 win over Devine and had big innings in the third and fifth frames after they scored 4 runs in each of those innings.

The Eagles finished with 9 hits, all singles, and picked up 10 RBI. Harris Priesmeyer drove in 2 runs and scored once, Chase Doran singled and scored, Gray Bruner hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored, Robert Jons took 2 walks, pushed in a run and scored and TJ Cross hit 2 singles, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run.

Bryce Hanover took 2 walks and scored 2 runs, Levi McPherson hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored a run, while Eli Arnold recorded 2 singles, picked up 3 RBI and scored a run.

McPherson picked up the win in five innings of work on the mound after he scattered 5 hits, gave up 1 run, gave up 3 walks and struck out 3.

The Eagles dropped a close one to Antonian, 9-7, after the Apaches scored 7 of their 9 runs in their first at bat. It was 8-1 at one point, but Geneva fought back with 5 runs in the third and another in the fourth.

Geneva outhit the Apaches, 8-6, and had 4 hits that went for extra bases. Gray Bruner tripled and scored, Brady Chandler doubled and scored, Eli Arnold hit a double and a single and picked up 2 RBI, Josh Patteson doubled and scored, while Chase Doran walked twice and scored 2 runs.

TJ Cross, Crockett Srp and Eli Arnold all tossed in the game.

Geneva closed out the tourney with a 5-3 win over Bandera in six innings. The Eagles had 6 hits in the game, singles from Brady Chandler, Eli Arnold, Bryce Hanover, Levi McPherson and two singles from Gray Bruner.

Arnold scored twice and also picked up the win from the circle in five innings of work. He struck out 5, gave up 4 hits and 5 walks.

Bruner threw in the last inning and only needed 8 pitches to retire the side.

Geneva Softball

The Geneva softball team is waiting for soccer season to end so they can get a few more players to field a complete team.

The Eagles are scheduled to play their first game after spring break and should be in action the week of March 16.
