Boerne High drops its last two district softball games

The Lady Greyhounds challenged Veterans Memorial and Smithson Valley last week in 26-5A softball and dropped both contests.

Boerne is 1-3 in district, but two of their losses have come by one run, and one of those setbacks was in extra innings. The Greyhounds (10-3 overall) were at Champion Tuesday and host Alamo Heights Friday.

Vs. Smithson Valley

Boerne High’s offense was kept in check last Friday by Smithson Valley after the Lady Rangers kept them off the board and recorded the 8-0 win at Greyhound Field.

Boerne did knock out 4 hits but couldn’t produce a run and were shutout for the first time this season.

It was only 2-0 after five innings on Friday, but the Rangers added another run in the sixth and then pulled away with 5 runs in the top of the seventh. Backto- back doubles, coupled with a walk, a single, a sac fly and an error helped Smithson Valley push in its 5 runs.

Riley Partin knocked out 2 of Boerne’s 4 hits and also took a walk, while Tessa Murphy singled and Brooklynn Thomason doubled. Lizzy Thornton and Leni Caldwell both walked as well.

Micah Bellamy went the distance in the circle and scattered 8 hits, gave up 6 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 1.

Vs Veterans Memorial

A walk-off home run by the Veterans Memorial softball team in extra innings helped the Lady Patriots defeat the Boerne High girls last Tuesday.

With Tuesday’s contest tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth, the Patriots’ No. 5 batter Avery Delapaz smacked one out of the park to give Veterans Memorial the 5-4 win.

The Lady Hounds had a good start to Tuesday’s contest and scored 3 of their 4 runs in the first inning. An error and a hit batter put the first two Boerne batters on. Addison Reidy doubled to score a run and Breanna Krause singled to push in two more runs and it was 3-0.

Boerne’s 3-run lead held until the fifth when the Patriots answered with 2 runs.

Riley Partin singled in the top of the sixth to knock in another BHS run and they were up 4-2, but Veterans Memorial scored single runs over its next three at bats to pull away.

A Patriots run in the bottom of the sixth made it 4-3, and another run in the bottom of the seventh tied it at 4-4 to send it to extra innings. After Boerne was retired in order in the top of the eighth, Delapaz homered on a 2-1 count to left field to end it.

BHS recorded 6 hits after Reidy doubled, while Tessa Murphy, Brooklynn Thomason, Partin, Krause and Lizzy Thornton all singled. Murphy scored twice, while Thomason and Reidy both crossed home plate. Krause collected 2 RBI and Reidy drove in a run.

Micah Bellamy went the distance and threw 111 pitches in the circle. She gave up 8 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and struck out 8.
