BOERNE — The Boerne chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) has been awarded “Chapter of the Year” by the Native Plant Society of Texas during its Feb. 28 Spring Symposium.
The honor recognizes the chapter’s commitment to promoting the conservation, research and utilization of native plants and plant habitats across Texas through education, outreach and leading by example.
This year’s recognition is especially significant as the chapter celebrated its 25th anniversary.
“The work that the members do in the community is impressive and clearly exemplifies our mission,” said Laura Leggett, NPSOT president. “Add to that all of the special events that were held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the chapter and you arrive at Chapter of the Year.”
Chapter President Felicia Zbranek-Zeitman said, “This recognition truly belongs to our members. Their passion for native plants and their willingness to roll up their sleeves and serve the community is what makes our chapter so special. Celebrating 25 years while continuing to grow our impact has been an incredible honor.”
In 2025, chapter members spent countless volunteer hours to habitat restoration projects, maintenance of demonstration gardens, educational workshops, plant rescues, and community outreach initiatives, such as native plant sales, field trips, and pollinator garden assistance.
The Native Plant Society of Texas commends the Boerne chapter “for its dedication and leadership and looks forward to its continued impact in advancing native plant conservation across the state.”
Events hosted during its 25th year included the grand opening of a native plant seed library at the Patrick Heath Public Library, a native plant art show by local artists, the creation of a special native plant book section at library, and guided tours of Boerne City Campus Natural Area.
