Fredericksburg handed the Comfort High baseball team its second loss of the season after the Battlin’ Billies beat the Bobcats, 13-4 Tuesday at Fred.
CHS took an 8-2-1 record into Friday’s doubleheader with San Saba held at Bobcat Field. They’ll visit Bandera on Tuesday.
Comfort held a brief lead in Tuesday’s contest. The Bobcats were down 1-0 in the top of the third but scored 2 runs in the inning with a couple of singles and a walk, but the 2-1 lead didn’t hold for long.
Fredericksburg answered in the bottom of the third with 4 runs and added 5 more in the fourth frame for the 10-2 advantage.
The Bobcats pushed in two runs in the top of the sixth with 2 singles, 2 walks and a hit batter and it was 10-4, but just like in the third, the Billies answered with a few runs and scored 3 runs to make it 13-4.
After Comfort didn’t score in the top of the seventh, it ended there.
The Cats finished with 8 hits, including a double by Gunner Carpenter, who scored a run. Augie Diaz de Villegas had 2 singles, drove in a run and scored once, Owen Schulze knocked out 2 singles and Mason Matt recorded a walk, 2 singles and scored a run.
Carpenter went 3 innings on the bump and scattered 5 hits and struck out 3. Schulze tossed an inning and gave up 4 hits, while Nic Carlos went 2 innings on the mound and yielded 3 hits.
