BHS baseball falls to Tivy despite outhitting Antlers

The Boerne High baseball team outhit Kerrville Tivy in Tuesday’s district game, but the Antlers won the statistical battle that matters most, on the scoreboard.

Tivy defeated the Greyhounds, 5-1, despite Boerne outhitting them, 5-3, as the two split their season series.

It’s Boerne’s first district loss and leaves them at 2-1 in 26-5A. The Greyhounds (7-5 overall after Tuesday) are in the Alamo Heights tournament this weekend. F or tourney results check the Star.

BHS struck first against the Antlers on Tuesday and were up 1-0 in the third inning. Drake Kinneson singled, moved to second on an Eli Srp sac bunt and then scored on a Jake Perez RBI-double with two outs for the early lead.

Boerne’s lead held until the fourth when Tivy tallied four runs to pull ahead. After the Hounds retired the first batter in the inning, the next five Antlers reached base thanks to 2 singles, 2 walks and a fielder’s choice and were up 3-1.

With two outs, Tivy added another run on a sac fly and held the 4-1 advantage.

It stayed there until the sixth when Kerrville added another run in the sixth on a double that scored the runner at first to make it 5-1.

Boerne loaded the bases in the seventh with one out, but a double play by the Tivy defense ended the game.

Perez singled and had the RBI double, Otis Skubal knocked out 2 singles and Kinneson singled and scored their only run.

Jackson Grimes went 4 innings on the bump and gave up 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and struck out 3, while Eli Srp finished up on the hill and threw the final 2 frames. Srp yielded a hit, a run, 2 walks and fanned a batter.
