Apanel of local women business owners and entrepreneurs recently shared tips, insight and camaraderie to honor International Women’s Day.
The question-and-answer session, attended by dozens, took place March 6 at the Patrick Heath Library Community Room.
Panelists included State Farm Insurance agent Ginny Thompson, Transformation House Executive Director Lori Houck, The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country’s chief marketing officer Jayne Zirkel and The Pearl Antler boutique owner Reagan Harris serving as host.
Questions were fielded by Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President Kim Blohm and focused on each woman’s journey to success in addition to tackling the struggles women face in the workforce.
When asked who motivates them most, Harris had an immediate answer.
“My mom,” she said. “For pushing me to get out this small town in 1998 and going to college while being in the midst of being a single mom.”
Her mother’s encouragement was based on the parent’s own challenges and life lessons, Harris said.
“So, I can say, it was watching her struggles as a single parent in a small town who had never done anything after high school,” she added. “Watching her and pushing me to be better.”
Attendees enjoyed mimosas provided by Salvador Dobbs owner Veronica Brown.
The event was sponsored by Texas Regional Bank and other local businesses.
International Women’s Day, which is celebrated March 8, observes the struggle for equal rights and shines a light on gender equality, health issues and violence and abuse against women, officials said.
