The Boerne Champion baseball team took a break from 26-5A action during spring break and only played one non-district game against Reagan Wednesday at Charger Field.
Champion played to win and looked solid in its 3-0 victory over the Rattlers. The Chargers are 16-2-1 overall and resume district play this week with two games against Alamo Heights.
The No. 8 state-ranked Chargers (2-1 in district) visited the Mules Tuesday and will host the game on Friday.
Two Charger pitchers combined for a no-hit shutout against Reagan after Ethan Coleman tossed four frames and didn’t give up a hit or run, walked 1 and struck out 3. Owen Kuhl went the final three innings on the hill and was almost perfect as well after he didn’t yield a hit or run, only gave up 1 walk and fanned 3 as well.
Champion scored the only run they would need to win the game in the bottom of the second with two outs. A walk to Zak Al-Arashi, followed by a triple from Lyndon Austin made it 1-0.
It stayed there until the bottom of the sixth when the Chargers scratched for 2 more runs and did it again with two outs. After Austin walked, Kuhl tripled to score Austin and make it 2-0. Ethan Jensen came in to run for Kuhl and scored on a single from Cal Isley to wrap up the scoring.
The Chargers finished with 7 hits, including the RBI triples from Kuhl and Austin. Isley hit 2 singles and picked up an RBI, while Austin, Al-Arashi and Jensen all crossed home plate once. Jaedyn Yamaguchi, Blake Ott and Garland Whitehead all knocked out one single and Austin Garritano took 2 walks.
