Lady Chargers run rule Thunderbirds, 16-0

The Boerne Champion softball team matched its season high for runs produced in a game after the Lady Chargers tallied 16 of them in last Thursday’s 16-0 win at Wagner in three innings.

Champion has scored 16 runs three times this year, and two of them have come in district games. Besides Thursday’s win, the Chargers also manufactured 16 runs vs. Alamo Heights and scored 16 against El Paso Austin in a tournament.

The Lady Chargers improved to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in 26-5A. They closed out the first round of district Tuesday at home against Kerrville Tivy and will begin the second round Friday at home against Veterans Memorial.

Charger pitchers Mylie Parker and Anna Hurst combined for a one-hitter in last Thursday’s contest. Parker went two innings in the circle and walked 2, while striking out 4. Hurst yielded 1 hit, no runs or walks and fanned 1.

Champion batted 30 times in three innings and scored 4, 6 and 6 runs behind 10 hits, while the Thunderbirds committed 11 errors. Nine of their 10 hits were singles, and Molly Baxter recorded their only extra base hit of the game with a double in the third frame.

Torin Tucker, McKenzie Wilson, Reese Rogers, Teagan Rogers and Tatum Cruz all hit singles, while Parker and Aidan Kavanagh both knocked out 2 singles.

Wilson, Parker, Kavanagh, Brylyn Thornburgh and Teagan Rogers all scored twice, while Kavanagh picked up 3 RBI and Teagan Rogers and Baxter drove in 2 runs each.
