Thursday’s district softball game at Pieper turned into a hard-luck loss for the Lady Greyhounds.
Boerne High outhit the Lady Warriors, 6-1, but still lost the game, 2-0, and slipped to 3-4 in district. The Lady Greyhounds closed out the first round of district Tuesday at home against New Braunfels and will begin second-round 26-5A play Friday at home against Wagner.
The Lady Hounds put runners on base in six of seven innings but just couldn’t push in a run. Their best chance to score came in the top of the seventh when they loaded bases with no outs after Boerne’s first three batters in the inning reached. Kenley Thomason and Tessa Murphy singled, and Brooklynn Thomason was hit by a pitch.
A sharp line drive hit to second base by Riley Partin turned into a double play by the Unicorns defense after the catch and a throw first base for two quick outs. BHS still had runners at second and third, but a well hit ball by Addison Reidy was caught by right fielder Ava Kerklin with an over-the-shoulder grab to end the game.
Leni Caldwell finished with 2 singles, while Lizzie Thornton, Reidy, Murphy and Kenley Thomason all singled for BHS.
Micah Bellamy tossed 86 pitches and gave up 1 hit, 2 walks, no earned runs and struck out 6.
Pieper scored both its runs in the second after a single, walk and an error made it 1-0. A passed ball allowed Kerklin to score from third for their other run.
