Boerne High hurler Jackson Grimes was basically unhittable during Tuesday night’s district contest against Smithson Valley.

The senior and UTSA signee only gave up one hit to the Rangers and struck out 11 batters against 3 walks to help the Greyhounds win, 4-1.

Grimes improved his record to 4-1 and has pitched in five of six district games for the Greyhounds team and struck out 54 batters in those five games.

BHS improved to 5-1 in 26-5A (13-6 overall) and visited Smithson Valley Friday to close out their series.

It was the bat of Grimes that pushed in the first run of the game Tuesday in the first inning after a hit to right field was misplayed and made it 1-0 in favor of the Hounds after Jake Perez scored.

A bases-loaded walk to Drake Kinneson later in the frame brought in EJ Goolsby and BHS was up 2-0 before the Rangers ended the inning.

SV tallied their only run in the top of the second thanks to an error, sac bunt and a ground out to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

The Greyhounds answered in the bottom half of the inning and used a walk, sac bunt, wild pitch and a ground out to score Eli Srp for the 3-1 lead.

It stayed there until the sixth when Boerne picked up an insurances run. Otis Skubal singled, followed by a Perez double and a Colton Shaver sac fly brought in Skubal and Boerne was in control 4-1.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs, but a ground out to second ended the inning and then the Rangers went 3-up and 3-down in the last two innings.

BHS had 5 base knocks and Perez and Skubal had 2 hits each and Asher Wren had the other, while Goolsby, Skubal, Perez and Srp scored one run apiece.
