Boerne Champion’s Andrew Medina competed at the Region 1- D1 Powerlifting Meet in Abilene where he recorded a top-10 finish in the 198-pound division.
Medina, a junior football player at Champion as well, qualified for regionals by placing second at the Javelina Powerfest Invitational at Crystal City High School on Feb. 21.
He qualified for the regional meet with a total of 1,325 pounds across three lifts. Medina recorded a 520-pound squat, a 350pound bench press and a 455-pound deadlift.
At state, he ended up sixth in the 5A category and was 10th overall in the 5A/6A combined division in the 198-pound category with a total of 1,310 pounds lifted after a 520-pound squat, a 335-pound bench press and a 455-pound deadlift.
