Usually when a softball team hits four home runs in a game, they win, but that wasn’t the case Tuesday night when Boerne High hosted New Braunfels.
The Unicorns overcame four homers, a triple and a double by the BHS bats and went on to defeat Boerne at Greyhound Field, 11-10.
Boerne drops to 3-5 in 26-5A (12-5 overall) and closed out the first round of district. The Greyhounds began the second round Friday against Wagner and visit Kerrville Tivy on Tuesday.
The Lady Hounds were leading 10-9 going into the seventh, but the Unicorns scored two runs in the top of the inning to pull ahead 11-10.
In the bottom half of the frame, Boerne put the potential tying and winning runs on after singles by Tessa Murphy and Riley Partin with one out, but New Braunfels ended the game with a fielder’s choice out on the bases and a pop up to center field.
Both teams finished with 13 hits and New Braunfels recorded a home run, triple and two doubles in the shootout.
Addison Reidy swung the bat well and hit two of Boerne’s home runs, while Leni Caldwell and Lizzy Thornton also recorded homers.
Reidy scored twice, picked up 3 RBI, took 2 walks and scored 2 runs, Caldwell plated 2 runs, drove in a run and walked, while Thornton had an RBI and a run scored. Partin tripled, singled and scored a run, Tessa Murphy doubled, smacked 2 singles, walked, pushed in a run and scored once and Brooklynn Thomason scored a run.
