Groff chosen to lead Comfort Chamber

Background includes commercial property and real estate

COMFORT — Jo Groff is the new director of the Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce after its former leader stepped down last month.

Groff, a commercial property owner and real estate broker for more than 40 years, took over the role March 16 after Charlie Hueber left to become the executive director of the Santa Fe, Texas, Economic Development Corp.

Groff moved to the Comfort area nine years ago; previous employment included stints as an administrative assistant at the Chamber and a grant writer for the Comfort Golden Age Center.

“The Chamber is a very important part of the Comfort community. I think it always has been,” Groff said. “With Comfort’s (unincorporated) status, with no City Hall, mayor or City Council, I think the Chamber has become — and been looked to as — an information center.” Groff applied for the executive directorship in February 2024, when Hueber was hired. The board later approached Groff to see if her interest in the post remained.

Groff, who said she is very active in the Comfort Heritage Foundation, added it is her hope to restore Comfort’s status as a tourist center and a historic small-town destination.

“My hope is to re-establish the Chamber as the go-to place, where small businesses can get information, and we can get the proper information out to the public, on behalf of the Chamber members,” the new director said.

The Chamber has 246 members drawn from businesses and residents across Kendall County including Comfort and Boerne.

“I feel like it’s important to bring more traffic to the community, to help out our small businesses, our vineyards, our bourbon houses and restaurants,” she said. “That’s what energizes me about this position.”

For more on the Chamber, call 830995-3131. Offices are at 630 Texas 27. “I feel like it’s important to bring more traffic to the community.”
