BHS’s Pitts wins individual title at 26-5A golf tourney to advance to regionals
The Boerne High boys and girls golf teams competed at their respective 26-5A tournaments last week, and one Greyhound claimed the individual district title and is headed to the regional tournament.
Boerne’s Brackston Pitts shot a oneover- par 146 over two days to win the 26-5A boys individual title. He beat two other golfers, Kerrville Tivy’s Braxton Simpson and Smithson Valley’s Cameron Kimbell, by five strokes after they both shot 151s.
The Region IV-5A golf tournament is set for April 13-14 in McAllen, and this is the second year for Pitts to make it there.
Greyhounds coach Lincoln Trulove said Pitts loves the game of golf and it shows.
“I’m really happy for Brackston, he deserves the success he’s having. He’s a kid that puts in extra work and stays active in tournament play,” Trulove said. “I think doing well at district last year gave him the confidence he needed to finish on top this year.”
As a team, the Boerne boys finished fourth with a 655 at district, where the top two teams and top two individual golfers not on advancing team head to regionals.
Smithson Valley (629) and Champion (643) will move on, while a second SV team was third (646).
Besides Pitts, Zach Walker, Ryder Dauphin, Grayson Escamilla and Kyler Parnell competed for the BHS boys.
On the girls side, the Lady Greyhounds placed six in the final standings with a two-day score of 738. Pieper (594) and three-time defending state champions Alamo Heights (628) advance to regionals.
Anna Gaeke, Melissa Matthews, Emma Byrd, Lila Sherill, Jillian Balderas, Ria Patel and Ella Sherill competed for the Lady Greyhounds at district.
