Enrollment is on an upswing at St. Peter the Apostle School in Boerne as educators prepare to open a new building in August, officials report.
With the 2025-26 school year winding down, Principal Melanie Brintnall said attendance is already at 225 for the coming year, when St. Peter debuts its new 44,000-square-foot school facility.
“Five hundred and fifty (students) will be the school maximum (once the eighth grade opens), and we have 225 kids already enrolled,” she said. “I think we’re going to get to 300.”
The new facility will be unveiled at an Aug. 14 grand opening, days prior to the start of the new year.
The current school is part of a complex at 202 W. Kronkosky St. that includes the church. Classes currently are held inside the church building until the new facility opens, officials said.
“It’s been incredible to see the building rise up ... to become a place where kids will learn and grow for years to come,” Brintnall said. J.D. Moreno, St. Peter director of marketing and development, said he expects enrollment to pick up in the next four to six weeks.
“Last year, we saw a substantial (enrollment) spike in the summer, and I have a sneaky suspicion we’ll double our enrollment by this summer,” Moreno said.
Meanwhile, the new building features two classrooms per grade level, kindergarten through eighth grade, although eighth grade will not be added until the 2027-28 school year.
The building features a library, a music room, an art room, a science lab and chapel. Brintnall and the staff have paid biweekly visits as the school builds out.
The principal said they expect a high retention rate from among the students currently enrolled.
A curriculum focused on “human flourishing, cultivating the habits of thoughts and actions that lead to fulfilling a virtuous life” is helping drive enrollment, the principal added.
Educators plan to start moving into the new building in mid-July.
