Geneva School of Boerne kicked off the second round of district softball with a couple of games. The Eagles were at Schertz John Paul II and then hosted Holy Cross and came up short in both games.
The Eagles hosted Corpus Christi Incarnate Word on Monday. Geneva slips to 2-5 in district (3-6 overall).
Vs. Holy Cross
Geneva took the Knights to seven innings before falling 10-0. Holy Cross tallied 3 in the third inning, 2 in the fourth, 2 in the sixth and 3 in the seventh.
The Eagles finished with 4 hits, including a double from Gracyn Miller, while Reese Smith, Caroline Lutz and Carlyle Harden all singled against pitcher Genesis Medrano, who didn’t walk a batter.
Lila Fleming threw all 7 innings for the Eagles, gave up 12 hits and struck out 6 batters on 134 pitches.
Vs. John Paul II
The Guardians played well and defeated the Eagles, 20-5 in four innings to sweep Geneva this year.
The Eagles hung with the Guardians for a bit and were down 6-3 after two innings. JP II extended its lead with 4 runs in the third to make it 10-3, but Geneva fought back and plated 2 runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead in half, 10-5.
From there, the Guardians answered with 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to blow it open and kicked in the mercy rule with two outs.
Geneva finished with 7 hits, all singles. Lila Fleming knocked out 2 of those hits and tallied 3 RBI, while Reese Smith, Carolyn Lutz, Carlyle Harden, Sydney Schaefer and Landry Smith all recorded 1 hit apiece.
Fleming, Schaefer, Smith, Hayes Harden and Katelyn Lindquist accounted for Geneva’s five runs.
Fleming also pitched for the Eagles and struck out 6 batters and threw 144 pitches.
