The Comfort High baseball team played a series with Brady last week and swept the Bulldogs.
CHS hosted Brady Tuesday at Bobcat Field and run ruled the visiting Bulldogs, 11-0. On Friday, the Cats were on the road and beat the Bulldogs, 12-4.
Comfort bounced back from its only district loss to Ingram and improved to 5-1 in league play (18-3-1 overall). The Cats will play a series with Blanco this week and host the Panthers Tuesday and visit them on Friday.
Comfort 12, Brady 4
Both teams started fast, and it was 4-3 in favor of the Bobcats at the end of the first inning, with 3 of Comfort’s runs coming on a 3-run dinger from Augie Diaz de Villegas.
Comfort kept scoring after that, while the Bulldogs only managed one more run over the next six innings.
The Cats pushed in 2 runs in the second and pulled ahead 6-3, but Brady plated a run in the fifth and cut the lead to 6-4 after five innings.
Comfort blew it open from there and tallied 6 runs in its last two at bats, with 4 in the sixth and 2 in the seventh.
Diaz de Villegas homered and singled, drove in 6 runs, Gunner Carpenter doubled, hit 2 singles and scored 3 runs, Mason Matt singled and scored twice, Matt Kemp hit 2 singles, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, while Mason Matter singled and scored.
Travis Gwaltney singled and drove in a run, Cade Woerner singled and Rhyder George walked and scored 2 runs.
Matter went 6.1 innings on the hill and gave up 4 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and struck out 11.
Zach Jones closed it out and recorded the last two outs on nine pitches.
Comfort 11, Brady 0
Comfort’s Gunner Carpenter pitched well and only gave up 2 hits in Tuesday’s win, while walking 3 and striking out 9 on 84 pitches.
The ’Cats scored 3 in the first, 3 in the second, 2 in the third and 3 in the fourth to get 10 runs on 5 hits, 3 of them doubles.
Cade Woerner doubled and singled, picked up 3 RBI and scored a run, Mason Matt doubled, scored 3 runs and drove in a run, Mason Matter doubled, collected 2 RBI and scored once, while Matt Kemp singled and plated a run.
