Eagles play two district baseball games

Geneva School of Boerne played two district baseball games last week and split the two after a 13-4 win at Schertz John Paul II and a 9-8 setback to Holy Cross in Boerne.

Geneva is 3-3 in district (11-8 overall) and hosted Corpus Christi Incarnate Word in a doubleheader Monday in Boerne. The Eagles still need to make up a game with CC John Paul II that rained out last week.

Vs. Holy Cross

After getting run ruled by the Knights in the first round of district, the Eagles played much better in their second meeting but came up a run short, 9-8.

Both teams had a good start and scored 3 runs in the first, while the Knights pushed in a run in the third and were up 4-3. Holy Cross tallied 5 runs in the top of the fourth, but the Eagles almost matched them and scored 4 runs to trail 9-7.

Geneva pulled within a run in the fifth to make it 9-8, but both defenses didn’t allow a run the rest of the way and Holy Cross held on for the win.

Robert Jons hit 2 doubles, picked up 3 RBI and scored a run, Bryce Hanover doubled and singled, drove in 3 runs and scored once, Eli Arnold doubled, Chase Doran hit 2 singles and scored 2 runs and Gray Bruner smacked 2 singles and scored 2 runs.

Hanover threw 3 innings and Cole Davis tossed 4 frames and they gave up a combined 11 hits, while both struck out one batter each.

Vs. JP II

Geneva scored 13 runs in last Monday’s win, with more than half of those runs – seven – coming in the second frame, and the Eagles tallied six of them with two outs.

The Eagles were up 8-4 after two innings and didn’t allow a run after that. Geneva added 2 runs in the fourth, had another in the fifth and then scored 2 more in the sixth.

Geneva finished with 10 hits and was led by Eli Arnold after he tripled and singled, scored 2 runs and drove in 2 runs, while Levi McPherson hit 2 singles, scored 3 runs and picked up an RBI.

Chase Doran banged out 2 singles and scored once, Gray Bruner doubled and picked up an RBI, Robert Jons singled, scored and knocked in a run, Bryce Hanover doubled, collected 3 RBI and scored a run, TJ Cross plated a run, Brady Chandler doubled and picked up 3 RBI, while Harris Priesmeyer scored a run.

Doran went 4.1 innings on the hill and gave up 3 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks and struck out 3, while McPherson tossed the final 2.2 innings and yielded 2 hits, no runs, 1 walk and sat down a batter.
