Comfort Deer beat Lady Bulldogs

Comfort High defeated Brady in district softball action to sweep the Lady Bulldogs this year.

The Deer beat Brady last Tuesday, 11-5, and improved to 2-6 in district (13-16 overall).

Comfort was off Friday and plays Blanco in a key series this week. The Deer hosted the game on Tuesday, and they’ll visit the Lady Panthers Friday to close out the regular season.

CHS and Blanco are tied for fourth in district at 2-6, so a playoff spot is on the line this week for both teams.

In last week’s game, the Deer scored 3 in the first and never trailed on Tuesday, but it was tied 3-3 after Brady brought in 3 runs in the top of the third. Comfort answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the third frame for the 8-3 lead.

CHS added 3 more runs in the fifth and was up 11-3 before the Bulldogs tried to rally in the seventh, but the rally came up short and they only scored 2 runs.

Both teams finished with 6 hits in the game, and Paige Werner and Mariah McCollough both collected 2 hits for the Deer, while Werner picked up 2 RBI and McCollough drove in a run.

Moorea Davis singled and pushed in 2 runs, Taygan Rust singled, while Ella Thiele and Jordan Judkins drove in one run each.

McCollough and Rust scored twice, while Allison Gomez, Bella Hernandez, Thiele, Davis, Judkins, McKenzie Pankratz and Werner all plated single runs.

Thiele went all 7 innings in the circle and gave up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks and struck out 6 batters.
