The Boerne Champion softball team recorded 5 hits against New Braunfels last Thursday but couldn’t score a run and fell to the Unicorns, 8-0.
It was a game that was moved up a day to avoid the bad weather that was expected Friday night in the Boerne area.
With the loss, the Chargers slipped to 4-10 in district (9-12 overall) and close out their 2026 season this week. Champion hosted Wagner on Tuesday and visits Kerrville Tivy on Friday.
New Braunfels scratched for 3 runs in the first frame after putting its first four runners on base. The Unicorns added 3 runs in the fourth inning for the 6-0 lead and pushed in 2 more runs in the sixth.
The Unicorns tallied 10 hits, while the Chargers recorded 5 hits, two from the bat of Aidan Kavanagh. Torin Tucker, Anna Hurst and Emily Thomas also knocked out singles for the Chargers.
Mylie Parker went the distance for Champion in the circle and gave up 10 hits, but only one earned run and two walks, while striking out 4.
Two New Braunfels pitchers combined for a shutout as neither hurler, Cecilia De Los Santos nor Addison Barbosa, gave up a walk while combining for 6 strikeouts.
