COMFORT – The Comfort baseball team handed Blanco its first district loss Tuesday at Bobcat Field, and they did it in impressive fashion after they run ruled the Panthers in five innings, 12-1.

Comfort and Blanco are tied for first at 6-1 in the district standings and met Friday. The Bobcats (19-3-1) control their own destiny and if they win Friday and take care of business this coming week against Llano, they would clinch their first district title since 2019.

The Bobcats scored in three of four innings and held a 2-0 lead at the end of the first frame. They added 4 runs in the second for the 6-0 edge.

Blanco pushed in its only run of the game in the top of the fourth and it was 6-1, but Comfort fired back with 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning for the 12-1 lead.

The Panthers batted in the top of the fifth and put runners at second and third with one out, but a pop up to the catcher Travis Gwaltney made it two outs and then outfielder Owen Schulze snagged a line drive in right field to end it.

Gunner Carpenter picked up the win on 87 pitches. He scattered 5 hits, gave up 1 run and 1 walk, while striking out 6.

Comfort only had 4 hits but took advantage of 10 walks issued by Blanco’s first two hurlers. A third Panthers pitcher didn’t walk a batter as Blanco used three different arms in the game.

Augie Diaz de Villegas doubled, took 2 walks, drove in 2 runs and scored twice, Mason Matt singled, walked twice, picked up an RBI and scored twice, Mason Matter singled, drove in a run and scored 2 runs, Schulze walked 3 times and scored, Gwaltney picked up an RBI, Cade Woerner drove in a run and scored and Dax Stehling singled.
