Comfort High’s 2026 softball season came down to Friday’s game in Blanco. After Tuesday’s loss to the Lady Panthers, the Comfort Deer needed to win Friday to have a chance at a playoff spot.
Blanco won Tuesday’s contest in Comfort, 6-2, and has a one-game advantage in the standings at 3-6. Comfort is 2-7 in district (13-17 overall) and needs to win Friday in Blanco to tie for fourth and force a tiebreaker.
The Lady Panthers took the early lead and never looked back. Blanco scored a run in the first frame and added 3 more in the third for the 4-0 lead.
Comfort pushed in a run in the fifth inning but left runners on base and it was 4-1. Blanco answered with 2 runs in the top of the sixth to pull ahead 6-1.
The Deer still had two innings to try and make up the difference but only scored a run in the bottom of the seventh before it ended with Blanco on top.
Comfort had 7 hits and were led by Ella Thiele, who tripled and scored both their runs, while Mariah McCullough knocked out 2 singles and brought in both runs.
Taygan Rust doubled, Jordan Judkins singled and Paige Werner knocked out 2 hits.
Thiele went all 7 innings in the circle and gave up 8 hits, 4 earned runs, 6 walks and struck out 7.
