Boerne High competed at last week’s District 26-5A track and field meet held at Smithson Valley and Pieper on two different days.
The Lady Hounds finished second at district with 113 points and the Boerne boys were seventh with 44 points. The top four finishers in each event advanced to this week’s Area meet at New Braunfels Canyon held Friday.
Varsity Girls
Smithson Valley edged the Lady Hounds by two points to win the district title, 115-113.
Boerne helped its cause by winning two relays after the 4x200 consisting of Maddie Freeman, Bella Pettet, Bethanee Lozano and Victoria Varga captured 1st (1:45), while the 4x400 of Penelope Kirk, Sutton Amerman, Averley Bruce and Presley Merkens topped the field as well (3:59).
Also in relay events, the 4x100 of Varga, Pettet, Ocean Valenciano and Prisca Igbo teamed up for 4th (49.30).
Presley Merkens came in 2nd in the 800 (2:14) and Sutton Amerman was 4th (2:15), while Merkens won the 400 (57.44) and Amerman was 3rd (58.05).
Prisca Igbo (15.46) and Averley Bruce (15.66) went 2-3 in the 100 hurdles, while Brei Johnson finished 4th in the 300 hurdles (47.41) and Bruce was 5th (47.56).
Bella Pettet came in 4th in the 200 dash (25.83), In field events, Mallory Miles finished 4th in the high jump (5-2) and Maci Wells came in 6th (5-0), while Isabella Pettet came in 2nd in the long jump (17-11).
Varsity Boys
In field events, Noah Blomqvist finished 4th in the discus (141-1), while Ryan Naylor (487), Cash Gatlin (47-5) and Blomqvist (47-3.5) went 3-4-5 in the shot put.
Aaron Garcia placed 2nd in the 3200 (9:41) and Brayden Scott took 4th (9:44) in the race, while Garcia won the 1600 (4:26) and Scott was 3rd (4:28).
