Lady Hounds fall to Pieper in home finale

Boerne High hosted its final softball game of the season Tuesday when they welcomed playoff-bound Pieper.

Even though BHS outhit the Warriors (10-7), Pieper scored more runs and won Tuesday’s contest, 11-4.

The Lady Greyhounds slipped to 6-9 in district (14-9 overall) and closed out the season Friday at New Braunfels.

Smithson Valley (14-1), Veterans Memorial (13-2) and Pieper (12-4) have the top three spots locked up, while New Braunfels (8-7) and Kerrville Tivy (8-7) are tied for fourth. With only one game left, there’s no way the Lady Greyhounds can catch either Tivy or NB since they are two games ahead of BHS in the standings.

Pieper had a strong start and scored 4 runs in its first at bat and added 4 more in the third for the 8-1 lead after the Greyhounds plated a run in the first frame.

The Warriors pushed in 3 more runs in the fourth for the 11-1 lead and were on the verge of a run rule, but Boerne kept that from happening with a single run on a Riley Partin sac fly in the fifth to make it 11-2.

The Lady Hounds added 2 more runs in the sixth and it was 11-4, but neither team scored in the seventh.

BHS had 10 players record hits, with each getting one base knock in the game. Brooklynn Thomason and Tessa Murphy doubled, while Bre Krause, Partin, Addison Reidy, Kenley Thomason, Lizzy Thornton, Leni Caldwell, Maddie Vasquez and Cerissa Nasis singled.

Murphy scored 3 runs and Partin drove in 2 runs.

Micah Bellamy threw all seven innings and gave up 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 7.
