THE BOOKWORM
There are a couple of great ways to celebrate National Poetry Month within the library. As you enter the library, look to your left near the gallery. There is a “Poet-tree” set up on the wall where patrons can write their own short poem on colored butterfly- shaped paper, and we’ll attach your poem to the tree. Also, nearby on the “Spotlight” display, find poetry books that can be checked out by local, regional, and national authors. If you’d like to support area authors by reading their books, here are a few of them - we have their books cataloged within the library: d. ellis phelps from Bulverde, James R. Dennis, Naomi Nye, and Natalia Treviño all from San Antonio.

If you are interested in joining a poetry program that meets year-round, stop by the “Boerne Beat” each first Monday at 9:15 a.m. This group meets within the library in the conference room and is led by Robin Stauber. They read different forms and styles of poetry every month.
Moving into May at the library, the focus will be shifting to the visual. This May explore our local history through an artistic lens as the Patrick Heath Public Library and the Hill Country Council for the Arts present the first art exhibition for our No Blank Canvas artist-in-residence program: “Their Absence is Our Presence” by our 2026 artist Isaac Grigar.
The exhibit will be on display throughout the month of May and will feature art pieces that Isaac created after researching and talking with local historians. It will also feature artworks by local Boerne residents who participated in Isaac’s workshop through the Hill Country Council for the Arts. We encourage everyone to visit the library gallery space to view the pieces and see just how timeless and expansive our Hill Country and Boerne history can be.
