Blanco beats Bobcats, jumps back into first place

Blanco got a little payback on the Comfort baseball team and slid back into first place in the district standings after last Friday’s win over the Bobcats.

Comfort run ruled the Panthers Tuesday at home to tie them for first in the 5-3A standings, but Blanco returned the favor and beat the Bobcats on Friday 7-2.

Blanco moves back into sole possession of first place at 7-1, while Comfort (19-41) and Llano are both sitting at 6-2 and are scheduled to play this week. Game 1 has been moved back a day to Wednesday in Llano.

The Panthers had a strong start last Friday and recorded 4 runs in the bottom of the first for the quick 4-0 lead. Comfort loaded the bases in the second and Mason Matt singled to get the ’Cats on the board and make it 4-1 but couldn’t bring in anymore runs at that point.

Blanco added 3 more runs in the fourth to push the lead to 7-1 before CHS scored its other run in the sixth.

Matt came through with a two-out double and scored on a Gunner Carpenter single to trim the lead to 7-2, but it stayed there the rest of the way.

Comfort had 5 hits after Matt doubled and singled, drove in a run and scored once. Carpenter recorded an RBI single and walked twice, while Owen Schulze and Cade Woerner both singled and Marcus Zarate plated a run.

Mason Matter started on the hill and went 3.2 innings, while giving up 3 hits, 6 earned runs, 3 walks and striking out 1.

Zach Jones tossed 1.2 innings and yielded 2 hits, no runs, 2 walks and fanned 1, while Schulze came in and induced a double play in the sixth.
