Boerne Champion tallied a season-high 19 runs Tuesday at Wagner and defeated the Thunderbirds, 19-2.
The Chargers followed that up with a 14-1 win over Wagner Friday in Boerne and moved closer to a district title.
Champion improved 12-2 in district (26-3-1 overall) and stayed in first place in the 26-5A standings.
One more win by the Chargers this week and they’ll wrap up their second straight district title. They have at least a share of the 26-5A crown but want to win it outright.
Champion is scheduled to play two games with Kerrville Tivy this coming week. The Chargers game with Tivy on Tuesday was called off and they are looking at other options.
Champion 19, Wagner 2
Champion blew open Tuesday’s contest by scoring 11 runs in the second to make it 14-0 after scoring 3 in the first frame.
The Chargers added another run in the third and were leading 15-0 before Wagner got on the board with 2 runs in the bottom of the third.
Champion pushed in 2 more runs in the fourth and fifth frames for the final of 19-2.
Brody Bendele had the hit of the game after knocking a grand slam out of the park in the second inning to collect 4 RBI on one swing.
Owen Kuhl hit 2 singles, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, Cal Isley plated 2 runs after walking twice, Austin Garritano and Brody Eisert scored 2 runs each, Zak Al-Arashi doubled and singled, picked up 3 RBI and scored 2 runs, Lyndon Austin scored twice, while Ethan Jensen, Caiden Cruz and Patrick Hall all doubled in the game.
Ethan Coleman only threw a couple of innings but picked up the win and didn’t give up a hit, walk or run, while striking out 4 on just 33 pitches.
Parker Davis, Caleb Brown and Eisert all tossed in the game as well and went one inning each and they all struck out at least one batter after Davis fanned 3, Brown 1 and Eisert 2.
Champion14, Wagner 1
The Chargers were up 3-1 going into the bottom of the third and then blew it open with 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Champion knocked out 10 hits and was led by Garland Whitehead, who legged out two triples, scored 3 runs and tallied 4 RBI, while Austin Garritano tripled and singled, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs.
Brody Eisert hit 2 singles, walked once, drove in a run and scored a run as at least 10 players scored a run.
Eisert started on the hill and went 4 innings, giving up 2 hits, no walks or earned runs and striking out 5.
Parker Davis closed it out and threw in the fifth and didn’t yield a hit or run, gave up 2 walks and fanned 3.
