After falling behind 5-0, the Boerne High softball team started a rally, but the comeback came up short last Friday at New Braunfels.
BHS plated 4 runs in the sixth to make it 5-4, but the Unicorns answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the sixth to double up the Lady Greyhounds with the final score of 8-4.
It was the season finale for the Lady Greyhounds team that finished district play at 6-10 (14-10) and tied for sixth with Champion in the final 26-5A standings.
The Unicorns tallied single runs through the first three innings and then pushed in 2 in the fifth for the 5-0 lead.
Boerne got on the board in the sixth after Kenley Thomason blasted a 3-run shot and it was 5-3. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Tessa Murphy hit a sac fly and brought in Leni Caldwell from third and the Unicorn lead was down to one at 5-4.
But the rally ended there, and New Braunfels fired back with a single, triple and a walk and a couple of wild pitches in the bottom of the sixth and made it 8-4, which is where it stayed until the end.
Boerne finished with 6 hits and Thomason had three of them after she almost hit for the cycle and recorded a home run, double and single, while driving in 3 runs and scoring once.
Maddie Vasquez, Caldwell and Addison Reidy singled, while Riley Partin, Reidy, Thomason and Caldwell all scored once.
Micah Bellamy tossed 6 innings and gave up 8 hits, 6 earned runs, 7 walks and struck out 6 batters.
Seniors this year are Riley Partin, Emma Wright, Tessa Murphy, Maddie Vasquez and Bre Krause.
