While the Boerne Champion softball squad didn’t make the playoffs this year, they did play the role of spoiler last Friday and kept Kerrville Tivy from getting in.

The Chargers topped Tivy last Friday, 4-2, to keep the Lady Antlers out of the postseason mix.

Champion closed out the season by winning its last two and ended the year at 6-10 in district (11-12 overall) and tied for sixth in the final 26-5A standings with Boerne High.

Mylie Parker is Champion’s only senior, and Parker played a big role in her final game as a Chargers after she struck out 11 batters, while only giving up 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 walks.

Champion was trailing 2-1 by the end of the fifth frame but scored the final 3 runs of the game with 2 in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Brylyn Thornburgh tripled in the sixth to bring in Parker after she doubled. Thornburgh scored on the play and the Chargers were up 3-2.

Parker drove in another run in the seventh to score Torin Tucker and it was 4-2. Parker and the rest of the defense retired the Antlers in order in the bottom half of the inning to end it.

Champion outhit Tivy, 8-2, as Parker doubled and singled, while Thornburg tripled and singled and Tucker knocked out 2 singles.

Teagan Rogers and Aidan Kavanagh both singled, while Tucker and Thornburgh scored once and Parker plated 2 runs.

Thornburg drove in 2 runs, while Parker and Reese Rogers picked up 1 RBI each.

Tivy finished district play at 8-8 and in fifth place, one place behind a New Braunfels team that grabbed the last playoff spot up for grabs after finishing 9-7 in 26-5A.
