BHS’s Pitts plays at regional tournament
The Boerne Champion boys golf team punched its ticket to the state tournament after they finished third at the Region IV-5A tournament in McAllen earlier last week.
McAllen Memorial won the region with a 600 (299301), Smithson Valley came in second after scoring a 618 (312-306) and the Chargers were third by tallying a 629 (309-320).
The top 3 teams advance to the 5A state tourney scheduled for April 27-28 at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.
For the Chargers, Gavin Tavitas-Steele posted a top-10 finish after he recorded a two-day score of 153 (7479) to tie for seventh.
Matthew Mendoza posted a 156 (79-77) to tie for 13th place, Jack Thomas carded a 158 (75-83) for 15th, Boden Boustog tied for 26th with a 163 (82-81) and Cooper Relf finished with a 167 (81-86) to tie for the 33rd spot in the field of 94 golfers.

Brackston Pitts just missed out on advancing to state by one stroke and one place after the Boerne High golfer played as an individual medalist.
The top three golfers not on an advancing team make it to state, and Pitts was fourth among the medalists that advanced.
Pitts shot rounds of 79 and 75 to finish with a 154 and was ninth overall.
McAllen’s Rex Flores was the top finisher not on an advancing team (fifth overall) after he posted a 151 (76-75), Kerrville Tivy’s Braxton Simpson (sixth overall) finished with a twoday score of 152 (76-76), while Liberty Hill’s Sonny Figioli (tied for seventh overall) recorded a 153 (7281) to advance to state, just one stroke ahead of Pitts.
