Chargers compete at Area track and field meet

NEW BRAUNFELS — Several members of the Boerne Champion boys and girls track and field teams were at the Region IV Area 25-26 meet last week at NB Canyon.

The Lady Chargers finished seventh with 48 points and the Champion boys were fifth with 51 points. The top four advanced to the Region IV-5A meet scheduled for May 1-2 at Heroes Stadium.

Varsity Girls

Juliana Syroney won the 200 with a time of 25.57 and Syroney also took second in the 100 after posting a 11.87.

Payton Kidder placed second in the 1600 after she recorded a 5:08 and Rebecca Bezerra was third in the 3200 in 11:11.

Cassidy Breuer advanced in field events after she placed third in the long jump by going 17-8.50, while Maelee Mares was fifth in the high jump after clearing 5-2.

Champion’s 4x100 of Lindsay Thompkins, Kinley Graff, Mikayla Green and Syroney also advanced after they were fourth with a time of 48.27.

Varsity Boys

Shawn Edwards won the 1600 by running a 4:31 and Ryder Flugence also posted a first-place finish after winning the triple jump with a 48-4.5.

Edwards advanced in the 3200 as well after he was fourth in 9:38 and Flugence came in fourth in the long jump at 21-10.75 to move on.

Champion’s 4x200 relay of Hayden Fridley, Jaxon Harbuck, Ryan McDonald and Brogan Dempsey finished second in 1:26, while Dempsey came in fifth in the 100 with a time of 10.63.

Also, the 4x100 relay of Cal Isley, Fridley, Zachary Garcia and Dempsey came in fifth with a time of 41.83, while Korbin Buchanan finished sixth in the high jump by clearing 6-2.
