Geneva School of Boerne took a tough-luck loss on Tuesday in their baseball playoff opener against First Baptist Christian – Pasadena.
The Eagles outhit the Warriors, 10-3, but lost the game, 4-2, to have their season come to an end. Geneva finishes the year at 15-9 overall.
Two of Geneva’s hits were home runs, but they were solo shots and accounted for their only two runs of the contest.
First Baptist Christian only had three hits – two from Mateo Cisneros – that proved timely for the Warriors after one of the Cisneros hits was a homer in the top of the fourth for the 1-0 lead.
With the score tied at 1-1 after a Bryce Hanover solo homer in the bottom of the fourth for the Eagles, Cisneros dealt the knockout punch with a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth to make it 4-1.
Eli Arnold blasted a solo home run for the Eagles in the sixth to cut the lead in half, but Geneva couldn’t push in any more runs.
Geneva had two runners on base in the seventh with one out, but the next two batters were retired to end the game at 4-2.
Cisneros drove in all four runs and had two of their three hits, while he was also the winning pitcher after he went 6.1 innings on the mound and gave up 10 hits, 2 earned runs, no walks and struck out 8.
Arnold and Hanover homered, Gray Bruner smacked a double and two singles, Levi McPherson hit 2 singles, Chase Doran singled, while Brady Chandler recorded two singles.
Doran started on the hill and went 4.2 innings and scattered 3 hits, gave up 4 runs, 4 walks and he struck out 6. Hanover closed it out and didn’t give up a hit or run, 2 walks and he fanned 3 in 2.1 innings of work.
Seniors this year are Brady Chandler, Reid Wilson, Harris Priesmeyer, Gray Bruner, Robert Jons and Josh Patteson.
