Comfort closed out their opening-round series with a 7-4 win over Merkel on Monday in Brownwood.
The Bobcats (24-5-1) return to Brownwood to face Jacksboro (22-4) in the second round. Game 1 is Friday at 6 p.m.; Game 2 is Saturday at 4 p.m., and a third game will follow if needed.
The Bobcats had a fast start on Monday and pushed in 3 runs in the first and second innings, but the Badgers weren’t too far behind after they tallied a run in the first and 2 more in the second to make it 6-3.
Merkel recorded another run in the third and it was 6-4, but the Bobcats defense didn’t allow another run the rest of the game. Comfort added one more run in the fifth on Dax Stehling home run.
Comfort outhit the Badgers, 12-6, and were led by Stehling after he hit the homer and two doubles, drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Mason Matter added 2 doubles and scored a run, while Mason Matt doubled and singled, scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI.
Gunner Carpenter singled, scored and pushed in a run, Matt Kemp singled and picked up an RBI, Augie Diaz de Villegas singled, scored once and drove in 2 runs, Cade Woerner singled and Rhyder George singled and scored.
Woerner started on the hill and went four innings to pick up the win. Woerner scattered 3 hits, gave up 1 earned run, 2 walks and fanned 2.
Zach Jones pitched 2.1 innings and yielded 3 hits, no runs or walks and struck out 3, while Owen Schulze closed it out in the seventh to pick up the save after he pitched a clean sheet and didn’t give up a hit, walk or run.
Comfort vs. Jacksboro
Jacksboro swept Millsap in the first round and won both games via the run rule by the identical score of 10-0. The Tigers went 9-3 in district to finish second behind Iowa Park (11-1).
