SAN ANTONIO – Boerne Champion claimed three regional championships at last Saturday’s Region IV-5A meet at Heroes Stadium.
One of the regional champs, Juliana Syroney, who won the 200, will also advance to state in the 100 after she finished second in that race to earn gold and silver on the same day.
Syroney said she trained for the moment and ran her hardest, and it paid off.
“I’ve worked so hard for this moment and I’m just so grateful to be going to state now,” she said. “I just wanted to run my heart out and be in the top 2, I thought it was realistic.”
Syroney, who is going in the 100 and 200, will be joined at state by Shawn Edwards, who won the 3200, and by the 4x200 boys relay consisting of Hayden Fridley, Jaxon Harbuck, Ryan McDonald and Brogan Dempsey, who teamed up to win the race.
State is scheduled for Thursday - Saturday, May 14-16, in Austin on the UT campus. The 5A meet will be on Friday, May 15.

The Lady Chargers finished 12th in the final team standings with 20 points, and Syroney earned 18 of those points.

Syroney said the goal is the same at state as it was at regionals – to train and run her hardest.

“I’m just grateful for every second and will cherish all the moments with my teammates and run my heart out,” she said.
Rebecca Bezerra also picked up two team points after she was fifth in the 3200 with a time of 11:08.
