TV project about ‘glamorous’ Boerne wives raising hackles
A petition opposing the creation of a reality TV show based in Boerne has 529 signatures attached, according to the change. org site where it was created.
The Bravo TV network is gathering cast and staff for “Secrets, Lies and Texas Wives,” a video project that continues to rankle some locals who see the show — which has yet to air — as harmful to the city’s image.
“Reality TV shows like ‘Secrets, Lies and Texas Wives’ have gained notoriety for excessively amplifying personal dramas, romanticizing conflicts and projecting skewed realities to the public,” the petition — “Oppose reality TV shows harming Boerne’s reputation” — states.
An official description released by Bravo TV says the show will center “on a tight-knit circle of glamorous women (and) follow their lives as they raise families, run ranches and farms and manage sparkling social calendars in a town rooted in rodeos and tradition.”
But high-stakes drama is also part of the mix, the network promises.
“Behind the polished smiles and Sunday sermons, however, there are intimate relationships and forbidden romances that test loyalties and marriages, jeopardizing the town’s pristine image and proving that perfection is far more complicated than anyone could imagine,” the release added.
The petition opposing the show’s creation bases its objections on assertions including:
• Such shows can disrupt the tranquility of a town such as Boerne.
• Shooting scenes and the surrounding media frenzy can interfere with daily life, invade privacy and create a rift between neighbors.
• “Episodes filmed in our town can project a reality that is far from true, impacting local perceptions and leading to unwarranted judgments and stereotypes.”
“We must take a stand against this misrepresentation of our beloved town,” the petition’s unnamed creator said. “Our goal is to protect Boerne’s public image and maintain the authenticity of our culture without the dramatic embellishments facilitated by reality TV.”
No air date has been announced yet, according to the network.
