Officials have identified the man found lifeless Sunday in Boerne City Lake as Du Long, 80, of San Antonio.

The Boerne Fire Department about 2:30 p.m. responded to a 911 call for an apparent downing at the popular spot, officials said.

Callers said a man had gone underwater and was struggling to stay afloat.

Bystanders unsuccessfully tried to help him before emergency crews arrived, officials said.

Long’s body was found in about 20 feet of water and recovered just before 6:30 p.m., according to authorities. In addition to the Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team, other responding agencies included the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Boerne Police Department.

Officials said visitors were asked to leave the lake while first responders led recovery efforts, and the area remained closed for the rest of the day.
