CELEBRATING THE ARTS
Thank you and congratulations are in order, for all the visual artists and artisans whose artworks created a lovely atmosphere for this year's Hill Country Art and Wine Festival at Main Plaza.
Although the artists experienced late evening and morning showers, the festivalgoers came out in full force Saturday afternoon to appreciate the heart and soul of festival creatives from the visual artists and vintners to les boulangers, les fromagers, a master distiller and an orchardist.
If you are unfamiliar with any of these titles, we encourage you to make your plans now to participate in next year's festival.
And the winners are — The Art and Wine Committee this year chose to award first, second, and third-place rosettes for the artists’ overall presentations in both divisions of Fine Arts -- fine arts created solely for aesthetic value, imagination and intellectual expression; and Applied Arts, functional or utilitarian art that combines aesthetic beauty with practical, everyday use.
* Fine Arts: First place, Max Tayor; Second place, Matthew Teter; and third place, Doreen Hill-Gardner.
* Applied Arts: First place, Brittany Nicole Stracke, “Jumping Beans Pottery”; Second place, Patricia Castillo and Paul Jolet, “2 Peas Art”; and third place, Al Levy, “Alwood Arts.”
We were so pleased with the enthusiasm and caliber of the community of artists and artisans who provided a quality show for our festival-goers.
Remember, Saturday, June 6, is National Bubbly Day. We encourage you to join the Artists of Carriage House Gallery for snacks, bubbles, prosecco and bellinis, from 2-6 p.m.
This is an artists’ reception featuring the artwork of Susan Die and John Freud. This is a great opportunity to meet the artists and hear their inspirations, at The Carriage House Gallery, 110 Rosewood Ave. In Boerne. For details, call 830-248-1184.
Die is a fused glass artist working with both glass and glass enamels. Her work is both nature-inspired and bold, color-textured abstracts.
Freud is a photographer capturing some of the most stunning natural areas of the Hill Country and the Cibolo Nature Center. He is also an author, and you can purchase his book, “Replenishing our Hills,” at the gallery.
