FLASH FLOOD WATCH EXTENDS THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT

FLASH FLOOD WATCH EXTENDS THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT
"Everything we are experiencing is normal rainfall flooding," Kendall County officials said. This is Battle Intense Crossing at Cibolo Creek in Fair Oaks Ranch.

With many areas reporting upward of 6 inches of rain since midnight, Boerne and Kendall County officials are busy alerting residents to avoid typical high-water areas that are running high and deep this morning.

Brady Constantine, Kendall County emergency management coordinator, said he has teams responding to high water rescue reports as a storm system moved in late Sunday night-early Monday morning, dropping 5 to 6 inches in many locations.

"We had a rescue on FM 1376 Sisterdale Road, and closed the road just after that," Constantine said, of the closure on Sisterdale near Wasp Creek Road. Another high-water rescue was necessary for a motorist trapped in deep water in the 100 block of Fredericksburg Road.

Boerne Fire Department officials confirmed their participation in those rescues on myboernenews.com:

"Boerne firefighters assisted with two high-water rescues Monday morning. The first rescue was along FM 1376 and Wasp Creek and the second was on Old Fredericksburg Road along the Kendall/Bexar County line. Both vehicles had single occupants and were safely rescued."

FM 1376 remains closed at that Wasp Creek Road intersection. The Texas Department of Transportation has been notified and is sending a crew to assess the damage, he said.

Constantine said the Guadalupe River is maintaining its depth and remaining within its banks. "They are not getting the rain in Kerr County that we are getting here," Constantine said, a reference to the source of the July 4 flooding last year that killed 134 peoplle and caused more than $1 billion in damage.

"Everything we are experiencing today is normal rainfall flooding," he added.

The city of Boerne said all city trails are closed until further notice. Several sections are currently underwater, particularly in areas impacted by flooding along Cibolo Creek.

Residential rainfall reports included:

5 inches in Fair Oaks Ranch.

5.8 inches in Waring.

5.8 inches in River Mountain Ranch.

5.72 inches along Upper Cibolo Creek Road.

4.5 inches in Bergheim.

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning through 9 a.m. with a Flash Flood Watch through 7 p.m. Tuesday, as passing fronts may drop more rain on the already-saturated area.

The NWS forecast calls for 20 percent rain Monday night, and a 40 percent chance Tuesday and Tuesday night.
