NEW BRAUNFELS — The GVTC Foundation celebrated two decades of community impact during its Spring Award Breakfast held Thursday, May 28, at the Knibbe Auditorium, recognizing 92 nonprofit organizations and awarding nearly $350,000 through its Spring 2026 grant and sponsorship program.
The event marked a significant milestone for the Foundation, which has now invested over $7,500,000 in local communities since its founding in 2006.
Representatives from nonprofit organizations across the Foundation’s 11-county service area gathered to celebrate the Spring Awards and explore opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and resource sharing aimed at strengthening community impact.
The GVTC Foundation continues to focus its support on organizations addressing critical community needs through health and human services, education, youth programs, volunteer emergency services, and cultural initiatives.
“This milestone reflects what can happen when a community comes together around a shared commitment to helping others,” said Sonia Aguillon, President of The GVTC Foundation. “GVTC is committed to being local and working to enhance our community. The generosity of our donors and volunteers, combined with GVTC’s matching commitment, allows The GVTC Foundation to create a lasting impact in the communities we proudly call home. We are grateful for every nonprofit partner working tirelessly to bridge gaps, provide critical support, and uplift those experiencing hardship.”
This year, the Foundation introduced a streamlined funding process, combining grants and sponsorship requests into a single application and moving to two funding cycles each year. The change is designed to simplify the process for nonprofit partners while maximizing the Foundation’s ability to support community needs.
The Foundation’s impact is made possible through a unique partnership among GVTC employees, directors, customers, donors and community supporters.
Today, 87% of GVTC employees and 100% of GVTC’s Board of Directors contribute to the Foundation.
GVTC matches employee and director contributions at 150%. Customers also support local giving through the Foundation’s Round Up for Change program, while GVTC matches donations from businesses and individuals dollar-for-dollar.
Beyond the funding awarded, the event reinforced the Foundation’s role as a connector and catalyst for community improvement. Nonprofit leaders were encouraged to build relationships, share resources, and identify opportunities to work together to expand their reach and better serve residents across the region.
