For the second time in the last three seasons, the Boerne Little League All-Star baseball team has advanced to the Texas West State Little League Tournament that is being held this weekend in Abilene.
Prior to that, Boerne Little League only made it to the state tournament one time in the early 2000s.
Of course, the 2024 Boerne Little League team made history and advanced all the way to the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and finished second nationally and fourth internationally.
This year’s group has looked good so far and has posted a combined 7-0 record through the first two rounds of the playoffs at District and Sectionals.
Boerne opened play at the state tourney on Thursday, and the championship game is being held Saturday morning. The winner at state advances to the Regional Tournament to compete for a spot at the Little League World Series.
Boerne Little League President Chris Carey said the players deserve a lot of credit but added that the community’s support also helped to make it possible.
“I want to be clear about something: this doesn’t happen by accident. Getting a team to a state tournament is the visible part. What you don’t see are the hundreds of volunteer hours behind it — the coaches who show up, the board members who run evaluations, build schedules and keep the league running smoothly, and the parents who are always there, standing behind their kids,” Carey said. “These players earned this on the field. But the field they earned it on was built by a whole lot of people who believe youth baseball and softball is worth doing right.”
Team members are Anders Paulson, Boone Blalock, Carson Patrick, Case Greco, Chandler Schramek, Lawson Belden, Lyle Fischer, Kase Yarbrough, Kasen Martinez, Merritt Cude, Preston Baird and Walker Yost. Greg Yost is the manager, while Rusty Belden and Josh Cude serve as coaches.
