Boerne ISD rallies with resources

Annual event with vendors is Saturday

Up to 1,000 family members are expected for Saturday’s annual Back to School Resource Rally hosted by the Boerne Independent School District.

The event is 9 a.m. to noon July 25 at the district’s central office; check out the 238 Lohmann St. entrance.

Program coordinator Stephanie Bautista said more than 30 vendors are joining the district’s efforts to provide immunization, registration, child nutrition signup and bus route assignments.

New this year is a sports physical availability.

“That’s a request we get pretty often, and now we can get that done for parents,” Bautista said.

She added, “What we’re doing is a good thing, bringing the community together to support our families, so they are not only ready for the first day of school, but for the entire school year.”

Classes start Aug. 11. Planning for the rally began in January, she said, and involved input from several school district departments — transportation, child nutrition, registrar’s office, human resources — before branching out to the community in March.

“What we’re doing is a good thing, bringing the community together to support our families.”

“Last year we saw 1,200 people come through the door,” she said, “and 800 the year before. So, with good weather, we’re hoping for and preparing for at least 1,000 this time.”

In addition, the district’s Human Resources Department is conducting a job fair Saturday. The venue promotes the district’s employment postings, and people can fill out applications at the rally.

“It’s informal, but it’d be great if they have a resume and can leave that with us,” Bautista said.

The Love Kendall County Kids’ underwear and socks handout is a popular item with attendees, sponsors said.

Other vendors signed up for the rally are Good for the Sole, Little Smiles Dentistry, Boys and Girls Club of Boerne, the YMCA, Scouting, Fair Oaks Ranch Emergency Care and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
