Summer’s gone, but Heath Library moves on

Our summer programming has come to a close, but we want to thank all of our amazing patrons who participated in the 2026 Summer Reading Card Collector Challenge.

We estimate we handed out about 1,200 reading challenge kits in the youth department this summer. We hope you and your family enjoyed learning about the dinosaurs and collecting the cards as much as we enjoyed the faces of the kids when they received them.

We would like to send a special thank you to our featured presenters at our Bone Voyage closing celebration, the Dinosaur George Traveling Exhibit and Last Chance Forever: A Birds of Prey Conservancy.

More than 800 guests enjoyed the exhibit and presentation, and many guests walked away with their own fossils and gifts. We hope to bring the same excitement to our summer program next year.

We are taking a pause during the month of August to reset and get prepared for the fall. We will resume our weekly story times with Bubbletime Bookworms for children through 2 years of age, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., and Roaring Readers, for ages 3-5 years, on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 1.

• Welcome Recrafted. Every first Saturday from now to April we will be hosting Recrafted. org. They will be bringing a craft for children of all ages. You can find them on the patio in the youth department from 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. We hope to see you there.

This fall we will begin partnering with Texas A & M Agrilife Extension. Our first program series will involve readings from Hank the Cowdog, by John Erickson, followed by hands-on activities and adventures in agriculture.

These sessions will incorporate problem-solving skills and build curiosity and confidence in your children. Please see the attached flyer for specific times and dates.

• Herff Storytime comes back every second Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the vintage farmhouse at Herff Farm. Join us for an engaging family story time every month and stick around for a craft and a treat.
