SAN ANTONIO — Boerne High participated in its first volleyball tournament of the season after the Lady Greyhounds were entered in the Northside/Northeast ISD tourney.
The Lady Greyhounds won their first three matches and advanced to the tourney quarterfinals before suffering their first loss. Boerne went 4-2 at the event and finished seventh overall at the tourney.
Only the top four teams have players named all-tournament, but Boerne coach Staci Lawrence said she had several standout players including Lauren Magnus, Riley Caldwell, Kiley Coffland and Bella Pettet. Magnus reached her 1,000th career assist.
BHS is 5-2 overall and visits Creek View on Tuesday, the new high school in Medina Valley ISD. After that, the Lady Hounds are entered in the SAISD tournament this weekend.
At the tourney, Boerne opened with a 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 win over Madison, swept Laredo United, 25-19, 25-18, and then closed out the first day with a victory over SA Johnson, 25-21, 26-24.
Those three wins put BHS in the quarterfinals against Smithson Valley. Boerne’s former district foe defeated the Greyhounds in three sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18. That loss pitted Boerne against Medina Valley later on Saturday, and the Panthers prevailed in three sets, 27-25, 25-18, 25-17.
Two consecutive losses put the Greyhounds in the seventh-place game against Navarro, where Boerne prevailed 25-14, 25-9.
