Boerne begins play Friday afternoon in Little League World Series

After a send-off parade through town last week and a final practice, the Boerne Little League team left last Friday for Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as they prepare for their first game this Friday in the Little League World Series.

The LLWS starts Wednesday, but the Boerne or Southwest team drew a bye and won’t play until Friday. Boerne plays the winner of Southeast (Phenix, City, Alabama) and Northwest (Soundview, Washington) on Friday, 3 p.m. at ESPN.

Boerne won the Southwest Region title after a roller coaster week last week. Oklahoma was kicked out for using an ineligible player, leaving Boerne’s win over Louisiana as the championship game instead of the semifinals.

Oklahoma protested and filed a lawsuit in which the 414th district court ordered Oklahoma to be reinstated and allowed to play, but it was eventually dismissed, leaving Boerne or Southwest as the regional champs.

It’s Boerne’s second trip to the Little League World Series in three years.

The Boerne Star will be following Boerne at the LLWS, so be sure to check the Boerne Star.
