Kendall among counties receiving SA Food Bank aid after flooding

SAFB provided over 388,000 pounds of food, water in Southwest Texas

SAN ANTONIO — One month after severe flooding across a broad region of the Hill Country and Southwest Texas, the San Antonio Food Bank is still mobilizing to send aid to those impacted by the storms.

From July 13 to Aug. 19, the San Antonio Food Bank hosted 28 events across 11 counties, distributing over 388,667 pounds of food and water to more than 3,863 households.

Mobile Markets were held in Kendall, Medina and Uvalde counties; pop-up distributions were held in Media, Guadalupe and La Salle counties; and emergency distributions were held in La Salle, Uvalde, Bandera, Kerr, Medina, Kendall and Real counties.

Among the items distributed were MREs, water, dairy, eggs, chicken, produce, bread, cereal, snacks, disaster buckets, hygiene products, cleaning supplies and various warehouse inventory.

As the recovery process continues, the San Antonio Food Bank encourages neighbors experiencing food insecurity to call the Neighbor Services Hotline at 1-800-246-9121 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Anyone wanting to support families affected by flooding can donate items from the Food Bank’s 12 Most Wanted list directly at the San Antonio Food Bank, located at 5200 Historic Old Hwy. 90, San Antonio, TX 78227.

“In times of disaster, one thing remains true: we take care of each other,” according to a Food Bank official.
