James Ulm Sr.

James ‘Jim’ Paul Ulm Sr. passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Aug. 9, 2026, joining his beloved wife Margaret Jean ‘Jeanne’ Newkirk Ulm in rest.
Born in Frankfort, Indiana, Jim was recruited for the Air Force Academy as a talented basketball player, launching a distinguished military career. Together with Jeanne and their three children — Jim Jr., Joanna, and John — he traveled the world in service to our country before retiring as a brigadier general in 1991 and settling in Boerne in 2002.
In Boerne, Jim continued his service through volunteerism and community involvement at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, singing in the choir and serving with the Knights of Columbus.
Jim is survived by his three children: James ‘Jim’ Ulm II (Shelley) of Houston, TX, Joanna Ulm Peters of Monument, CO, and John Ulm (Jenny) of San Antonio, TX.
